The topping-out ceremony for a new center for globalization research has been celebrated in Leipzig. Around 500 scientists from all over the world will work in the so-called Global Hub from 2027, as announced by the Ministry of Finance.
The new building on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz will house several institutes at Leipzig University, including the Research Centre Global Dynamics (ReCentGlobe), the Graduate School Global and Area Studies, as well as the Institute of Religious Studies.
The new research building will cost almost 50 million euros. The federal government is funding 17 million euros of this through a program for research buildings. The new building is due to be completed in December next year.
