Nothing stands in the way of the Startchancen program for schools. The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag has released the first funds for the program. This means it can begin on August 1, 2024. It is intended to give children and young people better educational opportunities regardless of their parents' social situation. In Saxony, 183 schools are to benefit, receiving a total of 43 million euros per year. The program will run for ten years.

"The Startchancen program is the largest federal support to date for better school and teaching quality in German schools. Although the federal states are originally responsible for the school system, the federal government is investing a total of 10 billion euros," explained Torsten Herbst, a member of the Bundestag from Dresden. He is the parliamentary managing director of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag. The funds from the program would enable investments in a better and modern learning environment.

Furthermore, the FDP politician emphasized that schools would receive an "opportunity budget" with which they could independently set priorities. The development of teams of social workers, social pedagogues and other specialists would also be promoted.
