At the symposium, experts and politicians discuss the use of smartphones in schools. A new survey shows how elementary school in Saxony deal with it.

A "cell phone summit" will be held in Dresden on Thursday afternoon (1 p.m.) to discuss the responsible use of digital devices in schools. Saxony's Minister of Education Conrad Clemens has invited experts such as the renowned neuroscientist Manfred Spitzer alongside the Federal Minister of Education Karin Prien (both CDU).

At the start of the symposium under the motto "Less cell phones. More digitalization. Stronger skills", a survey on cell phone use at elementary school in Saxony will be evaluated, according to the ministry. In addition, the role that school authorities, teachers, parents and politicians have to play in dealing with devices in the classroom will be examined.

Different regulations apply throughout Germany. In Saxony, schools decide for themselves. Cell phones are banned at most elementary school, but the state parliament rejected a general ban in May.
