This fall, 343 prospective doctors of medicine began their studies at Saxony's largest medical training facility in Leipzig. This is one less first-year student than last year, according to the Faculty of Medicine at Leipzig University.
Regularly, there are 340 places available for medical students in Leipzig. However, a few more first-year students are always admitted, as it cannot be guaranteed that everyone will always accept their place. For this reason, the number 340 is always slightly exceeded.
This year, 19,674 high school graduates applied for places in Leipzig. This means that there were just under 58 applicants for each of the 340 places. In Saxony, TU Dresden also offers medical studies.
In addition to human medicine, the Faculty of Medicine in Leipzig is also training 54 new dentists, 56 pharmacists and 26 midwives. Another 20 students are newly enrolled on the Toxicology and Environmental Protection course and 7 on the Clinical Research & Translational Medicine Master's course. Across all academic years, 3,723 people are currently studying at the Faculty of Medicine.
