Transport association increases ticket prices for bus and train

Bus and train travel in the Central Saxony Transport Association (VMS) will become more expensive from April 1. Prices will rise by an average of 5.1 percent, the VMS announced. The reason given was increased costs, which will now be passed on to passengers. Otherwise, timetables would have to be shortened and connections canceled, it said.

This means that a single journey for a fare zone will cost 3.20 euros in future - 20 cents more than before; for the entire network area 11.10 euros instead of 10.30 euros.

The VMS comprises the districts of Zwickau, Central Saxony and Erzgebirge as well as the city of Chemnitz. The bus and rail companies in the transport association reportedly carry around 80 million passengers a year.
