After being closed for almost three months, trains have been running over the Chemnitz viaduct again since Tuesday. This marks a milestone in the renewal of the more than 100-year-old steel structure, Deutsche Bahn announced. "Scheduled train services can now run again." In recent months, travelers on the Saxony-Franconia main line (Hof-Dresden) had to switch to buses and plan extra time due to the total closure.

During the construction work, one track was completely removed and rebuilt. Excavation pits were also backfilled, bored piles installed and retaining and noise protection walls erected. In the coming months, the second track will now be built and another bridge will be renovated. The work is scheduled for completion in 2025.
