They see the future threatened by climate-relevant energy sources and therefore want to literally take to the streets - road users in Dresden should plan to do so on Thursday.

Activists from the environmental initiative Extinction Rebellion want to demonstrate for an end to fossil fuel heating with road blockades in Dresden. The participants are planning to block the busy Fritz-Foerster-Platz for seven minutes at a time from around 8.45 am on Thursday, as the group announced. According to an assembly overview from the city of Dresden, around 20 participants are expected.

The activists are demanding, among other things, that the city of Dresden rely more on renewable heat sources instead of fossil natural gas, for example. "Those who cut back on climate protection today will pay several times over tomorrow - through rising energy prices, CO2 costs and missed economic opportunities," argues climate activist Christian Bläul. Burning fossil natural gas, for example, releases greenhouse gases that are harmful to the climate.

This is not the first time that Extinction Rebellion has used street blockades in Dresden. Last year, for example, the group protested against air pollution in this way.
