Good news for passengers traveling to and from the Czech Republic: the tracks at the border crossing are clear again. At least for the time being - because the expansion will continue in 2026 and 2027.

On the line between Dresden and Prague, it's "clear sailing" again. The railroad company has completed the extensive construction work in the Bad Schandau Ost area up to the Czech border, as the company announced. The line will be back in operation today.

This ends the restrictions on the Dresden-Prague route. The Eurocity connection has been interrupted several times in recent weeks, most recently from December 1. Replacement buses ran between Dresden and Usti nad Labem. In local transport, the work affected the section between Bad Schandau and Schöna.

New passing tracks and noise protection

As part of the work that has now been completed, four new passing tracks were completed in the Bad Schandau Ost freight station. The section of track also received new noise barriers and overhead lines. Underground cable construction work for the electronic signal box was also carried out. According to Deutsche Bahn, the completion of the project will strengthen international rail traffic and significantly improve the infrastructure for freight transport.

Expansion to continue in 2026 and 2027

The expansion of the line is not complete, however. Work and temporary restrictions on train services are also planned for 2026 and 2027. The Hirschmühlen Viaduct directly on the border will be particularly affected. The line has been undergoing extensive modernization since 2014. According to Deutsche Bahn, it is the only electrified border crossing from Germany to the Czech Republic in the rail network.
