Saxony wants to promote building with wood as an alternative to energy-intensive building materials such as concrete and steel. To this end, a new model timber construction guideline will apply from now on, as announced by the Ministry of Construction. This would remove previous hurdles and expand the use of timber construction methods in multi-storey buildings. "We are focusing on timber as a sustainable, renewable, indigenous and, not least, extremely aesthetic building material," explained Construction Minister Regina Kraushaar (CDU). The aim is to make the domestic construction industry more sustainable and climate-friendly.
