Following a possible discovery of explosive ordnance in the Elster basin below the Zeppelin Bridge, a restricted area will be set up in Leipzig from 8 am. According to the city, this will be 100 meters around the site of the discovery and is expected to last until 4 pm.
Footpaths and cycle paths in this area cannot be used during this time. In addition, the Sportforum Süd stop cannot be served. According to Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe, streetcar lines 3, 7, 8 and 15 will therefore be diverted via Westplatz, Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße and Felsenkeller. Once the exclusion zone has been lifted, however, the affected streetcars will run again.
"Anomaly in the water" checked
During construction work on the bridge, an "anomaly in the water was detected on supporting scaffolding, which must now be checked by an explosive ordnance clearance company", according to a statement from the city. The Zeppelin Bridge, the Elster flood basin, the Palmengarten and the green strip on Cottaweg are affected. The police have not yet been able to provide more detailed information about the find.
