A truck involved in an accident has been blocking the Autobahn 4 between Dresden and Görlitz for hours. It has been completely closed in the eastbound direction and traffic has been diverted via country roads, according to the police. Traffic in the opposite direction is moving at stop-and-go speed in one lane past the scene of the accident, with the tailback stretching for almost 15 kilometers to the Burkau junction.
For reasons that are still unclear, the vehicle carrying construction waste on its trailer left its lane at midday between the Pulsnitz and Ohorn junctions in the district of Bautzen, collided with the central crash barrier and crashed onto it, with the load sliding onto the oncoming lane. The 60-year-old driver was slightly injured and the police have so far estimated the property damage at 120,000 euros.
