40 percent more electricity, primarily from renewable energies: A central power line is being put into operation in Vieselbach near Erfurt to make the grid more stable and efficient.

The grid operator 50Hertz is commissioning a new power line in Vieselbach near Erfurt today (10.30 a.m.). The 380-kV overhead line runs through the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia and, according to the company, is one of the most important supra-regional grid expansion projects in Germany. The 105-kilometer power line replaces a significantly less efficient power line. In future, it will be possible to transport 40 percent more electricity, primarily from renewable energies, according to the company.

The new line was necessary in order to make the increasing amount of electricity generated from renewable energies in northern and eastern Germany available to all consumers in Germany. According to the grid operator, this will make an important contribution to a stable and efficient electricity grid and enable the secure transportation of regionally generated renewable energy.
