The negative economic trend is continuing in Saxony. Saxony's industry generated a total turnover of 56.3 billion euros from January to September 2025, according to the State Statistical Office. Adjusted for prices, this was two percent less than in the same period last year.
International business declines more sharply
International business fell more sharply by three percent to 23.8 billion euros than domestic business, which declined by two percent to 32.4 billion euros.
In total, Saxon companies exported goods worth a good 38.6 billion euros up to September. Cars and mobile homes (12.5 billion euros) accounted for the largest share. Despite stricter customs policies, the USA was the most important trading partner with a slight increase of 0.2 percent to just under 3.8 billion euros. Exports to China fell by almost a quarter to just over 3.7 billion euros.
Online trade grows
In domestic trade, turnover development fluctuated between minus one percent in the motor vehicle trade and plus one percent in the retail trade compared to the previous year. Growth of four percent in online and mail order was noticeable here.
The hospitality industry, however, recorded a six percent drop in turnover. For example, the number of overnight stays in Saxony's hotels and other accommodation establishments fell by over 2 percent to almost 14.9 million overnight stays. The number of guests from abroad fell particularly sharply (down eight percent to just under 1.6 million overnight stays).
