Lufthansa is cutting its ground staff at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports in Saxony. Around 130 employees of the two subsidiaries Airport Services Leipzig GmbH (ASL) and Airport Services Dresden GmbH (ASD) have been made redundant, Lufthansa spokeswoman Anja Lindenstein announced. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" and "Sächsische Zeitung" had previously reported on this.
The ground staff handle Lufthansa aircraft and planes from the Group brands Eurowings, Austrian Airlines and Swiss. This is to end with the changeover to the winter flight schedule at the end of October. The tasks will be taken over by two subsidiaries of the airport operator Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.
Airline complains about excessive government levies
"The background to this decision is the deteriorating conditions in Germany as an aviation location over the past few years," said the Lufthansa spokesperson. Disproportionately high government levies have made flying in Germany considerably more expensive. In domestic German air traffic, business has not recovered sufficiently after Corona. The Lufthansa subsidiaries had recently been unable to achieve positive results.
A "socially fair and above-average compensation for the loss of their jobs" had been agreed for the employees affected. They could also apply for vacant positions within the Lufthansa Group - and according to Lindenstein, some of them are already doing so.
