The number of passengers at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports increased in 2023 compared to the previous year. Around three million passengers were counted last year, as Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG announced in Leipzig on Wednesday. This is an increase of 26.5 percent compared to 2022.

While Dresden Airport recorded 10.9 percent more passengers than in 2022, the volume at Leipzig/Halle Airport rose by 34.8 percent. The reason for this was the rising demand in tourist traffic. Turkey, Spain, Greece and Egypt were among the most popular destinations.

The volume of air freight at Leipzig stagnated compared to the previous year. Last year, 1.4 million tons of freight were handled - 7.7 percent less than in the previous year. The reason for this was the global economic situation, which was hampering growth, as well as wars and international conflicts. Leipzig/Halle Airport is the third-largest air freight hub in Europe.

The number of aircraft movements was roughly on a par with the previous year at around 100,600 take-offs and landings. However, Leipzig/Halle Airport recorded slightly fewer take-offs and landings than in 2022.
