The federally funded large-scale research center for the transformation of the chemical industry (CTC) will have a location in Merseburg (Saxony-Anhalt). With the university and direct links to the numerous companies in and around the Leuna Chemical Park, Merseburg offers ideal conditions for future research and cooperation, said the founding director of the institute, Peter Seeberger, in Merseburg on Wednesday. Construction of the headquarters in Delitzsch, Saxony, began in January last year. The federal government is providing a total of around 1.22 billion euros for the construction of the CTC. Around 300 people are expected to work at the Merseburg site by 2038.

The region around Merseburg is one of the world's most attractive locations for the chemical industry, emphasized Environment and Science Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD). "It has a great past, but it also has a great future." As an innovative large-scale research center, the CTC will transform the chemical industry into a circular economy that relies on renewable raw materials and recycling, providing important impetus for the transformation of the chemical industry in the south of the country. This will create a new location for cutting-edge research in Central Germany. The Merseburg site is all about the exchange between science, business and society.
