Declining prices and lower profit margins for bioethanol and biomethane hit biofuel producer Verbio hard in the past financial year. The Leipzig-based company also reported write-downs on inventories.
According to preliminary figures, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell from 121.6 million euros in the previous year to 14.2 million euros. Turnover fell slightly from 1.66 to 1.58 billion euros. The company did not disclose a profit after tax.
However, Verbio was able to expand production: More than 1.2 million tons of biodiesel and bioethanol as well as 1190 gigawatt hours of biomethane meant new highs. The CO2 savings potential of the products produced also increased from 4.4 to 5.5 million tons.
The Group is optimistic for the current financial year 2025/26 (until the end of June). The Executive Board expects a significant recovery in earnings to a high double-digit million figure. This is due, among other things, to a normalization of market conditions in Europe and the ramp-up of the US plant in the state of Iowa.
The Management Board and Supervisory Board announced that they would propose to the Annual General Meeting in December that the payment of a dividend be suspended this year. They want to carry forward the entire balance sheet profit to new account.
