At auctions, there are occasionally curious items up for grabs. A house of worship has now changed hands in this way.

The church of St. Mary in Hettstedt in Saxony-Anhalt has been sold at auction. The neo-Gothic church and former parish were sold for 163,000 euros, according to Sächsische Grundstücksauktionen AG. At autumn auctions on August 30 and September 3 in Leipzig and Dresden, 97 other properties with an equivalent value of around 4.3 million euros were also auctioned off, it said.

The listed church from the last decade of the 19th century was initially offered for 149,000 euros together with the parish. Other auctioned properties are also in Thuringia, Saxony, Brandenburg, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. For example, a medical center in Schwarzenberg in the Erzgebirge district of Saxony was auctioned for 395,000 euros. In Löbichau in the Altenburger Land district of Thuringia, a former Deutsche Bahn office building was sold for 4,000 euros.

At the auctions held by Sächsische Grundstücksauktionen AG, properties are auctioned off that are voluntarily released for sale by the owners. The next auctions are scheduled to take place on November 29 and December 3.
