A 19-year-old driver collided with several vehicles on the Autobahn 4 near Hainichen (Mittelsachsen district) on Wednesday evening after driving into an emergency lane. According to the police, the man was driving towards Dresden when he recognized the end of the traffic jam too late due to excessive speed and was unable to brake in time. The accident occurred shortly after the Hainichen junction.
His car skidded out of the middle lane into the surrounding cars. Five other cars were damaged until the 19-year-old's car finally came to a halt in the left-hand lane.
The 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital for observation with minor injuries, it was reported. The others involved remained uninjured. The accident caused damage to property estimated at around 60,000 euros. Five of the six cars involved had to be towed away. The A4 was fully closed in the direction of Dresden for two hours.
