Old trains need to be well looked after. That's why the Saxon railroad dinosaurs are taking a break from maintenance until the end of November. During Advent, selected trips - including evening trips - are available.

Saxony's narrow-gauge railroads are taking a short late-autumn break. In November, none of the diesel locomotives will be in sight on the lines of the Fichtelbergbahn, the Lößnitzgrundbahn or the Weißeritztalbahn, the Saxon Steam Railway Company (SDG) announced on request. This year, the break has been extended until the first weekend in Advent due to cost savings.

Until then, general maintenance work will be carried out on the vehicles and lines and new staff will be trained. Among other things, sleepers will be replaced between Hammerunterwiesenthal-Oberwiesenthal and Friedewald Bad-Moritzburg at a cost of around 100,000 euros, it was reported.

Selected journeys will then continue in time for Advent: the Fichtelbergbahn will run two trains at weekends and the Lößnitzgrundbahn will run an evening train from Thursday to Saturday. The Weißeritztalbahn offers a Bimmelbahn on the first weekend of Advent.

However, the narrow-gauge railroads won't really get going again until March 2026, when the summer season begins. According to SDG, late trains on the Lößnitzgrundbahn (Radebeul-Moritzburg-Radeburg) and the Weißeritztalbahn (Freital-Dippoldiswalde-Kipsdorf) will then also be running again. These had been greatly reduced this season due to budget cuts by the Free State.
