The start of summer vacation, road construction, and crowded highways: Why drivers in Saxony are likely to need patience right now.

The ADAC expects traffic jams on Saxony’s highways at the start of summer vacation. In addition to vacationers themselves, numerous construction zones are also expected to cause slow-moving traffic in some areas.

The ADAC reported that there is a long stretch of construction zones on the A4 highway from Glauchau through Dresden to Salzenforst. Construction is also underway on the A13 near Radeburg, on the A14 in the Grimma area, and on the A72 near Zwickau-Ost. Travelers should also plan for delays at the border crossings into Poland (A4) and the Czech Republic (A17).

The ADAC recommends traveling off-peak to avoid getting caught up in the main wave of traffic. During hot weather, travelers should opt for morning and evening hours whenever possible. Drivers and passengers should also stay well-hydrated.

The school year in Saxony ends this Friday (July 3). The neighboring states of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia will begin their summer vacations at the same time. In Brandenburg and Berlin, the school vacation begins next Thursday (July 9).
