Drivers must be prepared for busy roads in and around Leipzig during the European Football Championship, which begins on Friday. "Whether for European Championship visitors, commuters or residents, one thing is clear: the traffic situation in Leipzig during the European Championship will not be without chaos," said Florian Wagner, press spokesman for ADAC Saxony, according to a press release. In addition to the expected traffic of arriving and departing fans, the summer vacations in the Free State begin in the first week of the European Championships (June 20). "This means that the national roads in particular will be very busy," Wagner added. A total of four matches are scheduled in Leipzig.

The ADAC expects the highways to be full for the match between Portugal and the Czech Republic (June 18). However, the Leipzig police are hardly expecting any fans from either country without a European Championship ticket. The situation will be different for the match between the Netherlands and France (June 21): There will be significantly fuller roads there because Dutch fans like to travel and many families could be starting their summer vacation. The traffic level for the match between Croatia and Italy (June 24) will be somewhere between the level for the first and second games. For the round of 16 on July 2, well-filled freeways are expected for the arrival and departure times.

The ADAC pointed out to fans traveling by car that parking near the Leipzig soccer stadium is not possible. Cars must also be parked in signposted park-and-ride parking lots. The P&R parking lot on the Agra grounds in the south of the city, which has been set up especially for the European Championships, is particularly recommended. This is directly connected to the stadium by the special line 51. Rail passengers will be able to travel to the stadium by public transport. The stadium can also be reached on foot from the main railway station in around 30 minutes.
