The Königshainer Berge tunnel on the Autobahn 4 will be fully closed in both directions from Friday evening until Sunday evening (10 p.m.). The reason for this is final tests of the technical equipment, as announced by Autobahn GmbH. Traffic will be diverted.
The extensive renovation work in the tunnel began in March 2024. During this time, traffic was alternately routed in one lane in both directions through one of the two tunnel tubes while work took place in the other tunnel tube.
However, safety requirements have increased since the tunnel was completed in 1999. In order to meet these and bring the tunnel up to the latest state of the art, new emergency call cabins and more sensors for early fire detection were installed.
