Train cancellations, replacement buses, and delays: What rail travelers on the Leipzig–Dresden route had to endure—and what’s next.

A technical malfunction near Riesa disrupted train service on the major commuter route between Leipzig and Dresden. According to Deutsche Bahn, IC and ICE trains between the two cities were canceled for several hours on Tuesday. The Regional Express 50, used by numerous commuters, ran only as far as Riesa from Leipzig and as far as Priestewitz from Dresden. Between Riesa and Priestewitz, passengers had to transfer to replacement buses arranged at short notice.

In the afternoon, Deutsche Bahn announced via its app that repairs to the malfunctioning switch had been completed. Trains were expected to resume service between Leipzig and Dresden. However, delays were still to be expected.
