Citizens have submitted around 1,500 objections to the Saxony State Directorate against the expansion plans for Leipzig/Halle Airport. The deadline for objections had expired on September 4. The number is still provisional, since the people could also report in their communities and not all documents had arrived from there yet, communicated the state directorate on Friday on request.

All objections would now be sifted and evaluated. If necessary, further statements of the airport would then have to be obtained. When with a decision on the expansion plans to be expected, can not be said at present, so the state directorate.

The airport Leipzig/Halle is now the second largest cargo airport in Germany. The Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG wants to invest 500 million euros in further expansion. Among other things, more parking spaces for cargo planes are to be created. Leipzig/Halle has a night flight permit for cargo planes.
