More than four and a half years after the theft of the jewels from the Historic Green Vault in Dresden, the parts of the loot that were later returned by the perpetrators are back in Saxony's famous treasury museum. On Tuesday, the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) will present the previously unrestored pieces of jewelry in their former place in the Jewel Room.
The museum will open to the public the following day. The opening hours have been extended. Access to the reconstructed rooms on the first floor of the Residenzschloss is only possible with timed tickets.
However, the returned jewels are still in the same condition as the investigators found them in a Berlin law firm shortly before Christmas 2022: partially damaged and incomplete. This is because they are evidence in ongoing criminal proceedings in the case. The treasures recovered in the course of a plea bargain in the trial for the burglary remain under the control of the Dresden Regional Court and their condition may not be altered.
