The music festival "Unheard of Central Germany" will focus on compositions by Carl Reinecke and Peter Cornelius this June. To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the two composers, their works will be performed in different instrumentations at several concerts, the Straße der Musik association announced in Halle on Friday. Six concerts are planned between June 14 and 23 at six locations in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The venues include the Handel House in Halle, the Carl Maria von Weber Museum in Dresden as well as St. Peter's Church in Hausneindorf and St. George's Church in Teuchern.

Carl Reinecke (1824-1910) was reportedly the conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra between 1860 and 1895 and composed over 300 works. Peter Cornelius (1824-1874) was a violinist, actor and studied composition. Among other works, he composed the opera "The Barber of Baghdad".

The Straße der Musik association contributes to the discovery and dissemination of musical heritage in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. It was founded in 2009 and, according to its own information, has researched more than 2,600 forgotten composers at more than 580 locations as well as numerous instrument makers. Since 2011, the association has organized the music festival "Unerhörtes Mitteldeutschland" every summer.
