Landscape paintings by Otto Dix (1891-1969) are the focus of a current exhibition at the Gunzenhauser Museum in Chemnitz. The show entitled "Otto Dix and the New Objectivity" can be seen until the end of May, according to the Chemnitz cultural site.
Some of Otto Dix's sculptures have also found a place in the exhibition. Works by other New Objectivity artists such as Karl Hubbuch, Max Peiffer and Gustav Wunderwald are also on display.
The initially expressionist and futuristic motifs of Dix had already changed before the beginning of National Socialism, a museum spokeswoman said. From 1921 onwards, his works had become more realistic and socially critical. The following landscape paintings with threatening backdrops reflected the political events of the time and were a central part of the New Objectivity movement.
