The Procession of Princes in Dresden is a huge representation made of thousands of tiles. The template for this impressive depiction is now being renewed.

The model for the Dresden Procession of Princes, one of the most famous landmarks of the Saxon state capital, is being restored. The work on the drawings should be completed by August 2025, the Dresden State Art Collections announced at the start of the restoration. The Procession of Princes shows a procession of Saxon rulers on porcelain tiles on the outer wall of the Stallhof.

The preparatory drawings for the Procession of Princes were created by the painter Wilhelm Walther between 1869 and 1872. They are eleven drawings on a scale of 1:1, which are normally stored on rolls in the Kupferstich-Kabinett.

When the drawings are spread out, they cover a length of around 100 meters and a height of 4 meters. After restoration, the drawings will be on display as part of the exhibition festival "William Kentridge. Listen to the Echo" exhibition festival at the Albertinum from September 6, 2025. Kentridge is a South African artist.
