In 2026, the Leipzig Book Prize will go to an author who sheds light on the fault lines of the Western Balkans.

The Croatian-Bosnian writer Miljenko Jergović will receive the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding 2026. He will be honored for his short story "The Crazy Heart.
