Almost 100 Munch works as well as works by other artists - including Warhol and Rauch - attract visitors to Chemnitz. Due to the crowds, the show will be open longer from now on.

The Chemnitz art collections are responding to the great interest in the current Munch exhibition and are extending their opening hours. From September 27, the exhibition will be open on weekends and public holidays from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. - two hours longer each day than before, as the museum announced. From October 14, these times will apply to all days of the week, with visitors having half an hour longer on Wednesdays. Only on Mondays will the museum on Theaterplatz remain closed as before.

Munch's "Scream" as a lithograph

The exhibition "Edvard Munch. Angst" is considered a highlight in the program of Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025. The show has been open regularly since 10 August and can be seen until 2 November. More than 37,000 visitors have already been counted in the first half of the exhibition period.

In addition to almost 100 works by Munch, the exhibition also features works by other artists such as Andy Warhol, Neo Rauch, Georg Baselitz and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. On display, for example, is a lithograph of Munch's world-famous scream motif from 1895 and the painting "Zwei Menschen. The Lonely Ones". It once belonged to the art collections, but was sold in 1937 under pressure from the National Socialists. Now it has temporarily returned.
