The top prize at this year’s 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival goes to a drama from Myanmar, a crisis-stricken country in Southeast Asia. The film by director Aung Phyoe, titled “Fruit Picking,” received the Crystal Globe for Best Film in Competition at the closing gala. The film tells the story of the friendship between two young women who meet while working as seamstresses in a textile factory and develop special feelings for one another.
The top prize is worth 25,000 U.S. dollars (equivalent to just under 22,000 euros). The film festival in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, is one of the most important in Central and Eastern Europe. The award for Best Actress went to Swiss-Czech actress Anna Schinz for her role in the world premiere of “A Happy Family.” Ghassan Saad was honored as Best Actor.
