The artist Henrike Naumann is dead. But her ideas for the German Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale remain.

The German Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale is to be designed largely according to the ideas of artist Henrike Naumann, even after her death. "It had long been her dream to design the pavilion - we will realize this for her," said the curator of the German Pavilion, Kathleen Reinhardt, to the German Press Agency.

The artist had conceptually designed the work in recent months and completed it in recent weeks. "The works by Henrike Naumann and Sung Tieu will be presented as planned at the opening of the Biennale di Venezia in May."

The work will be realized as a joint work according to their artistic vision. Details of the exhibition have not yet been announced.

Naumann's works are known worldwide

Naumann, together with Vietnamese-German artist Sung Tieu, was selected last May to take on the German contribution to the international art exhibition. The artist died of cancer in Berlin at the age of 41, her family announced on Sunday. "The sudden death of Henrike Naumann has affected us all deeply," said Reinhardt.

Naumann, who was born in Zwickau, Saxony, but lived and worked in Berlin, was considered an exceptional artist. She regularly combined pieces of furniture and other objects in her installations, but also used video and sound works.

Exhibitions of her works have been shown outside Germany in New York, Harvard, Warsaw, Luxembourg and Kiev, among other places. The Art Biennale from May 9 to November 22 in Venice is one of the most important international exhibitions of contemporary art.
