According to the city, around 80,000 people celebrated the opening party for the Cultural Capital Year in Chemnitz. Images of a colorful, cheerful city full of people went around the world, explained Lord Mayor Sven Schulze (SPD).
Around 2,000 people took part in the program on various stages in the city on Saturday. 450 volunteers helped with the implementation.
Chemnitz shares the title of European Capital of Culture this year with the twin city of Nova Gorica - Gorizia in Slovenia and Italy.
