Fewer submissions than last year, but there is still plenty to choose from: the jury for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize has to sift through 485 titles - and select the best works in three categories.

The publishers have entered 485 titles in the running for the prestigious Leipzig Book Fair 2026 prize. That is fewer than last year (506). However, the number remains at a high level, according to a spokesperson for the fair.

The jury, chaired by Katrin Schumacher, is now spoiled for choice. It has to choose one outstanding new publication in each of the categories of fiction, non-fiction/essay writing and translation. This year, too, there is a great diversity of voices between poetry and non-fiction, extensive novels and concise essays, Schumacher stated.

The nominations will be announced at the end of February and the winners will be announced on March 19. The prize is endowed with a total of 60,000 euros.
