The Saxon state government today appointed Dirk Diedrichs as a major settlement officer to better coordinate and oversee significant investments and important settlements in the Free State. Starting on April 26, 2023, the 60-year-old economist will set a decisive course for state development across departments.

In addition to the strategic and political coordination of the relevant processes, one focus will be on the necessary infrastructure development for successful settlements. Diedrichs will take over thereby also the arrangements with the municipalities and the infrastructure development.

The appointment takes place presumably as reaction to Saxonia defeat in the competition for the billion-worth settlement of Intel's new chip factory in Europe, with which Magdeburg received the addition. Saxony was apparently only able to provide suitable land relatively late.

Diedrichs had been head of office at Saxony's Ministry of Finance since December 2017 and previously held various management positions, including at the Ministry of the Interior in Saxony. From 2015 to 2016, he headed there, among other things, the Asylum Staff Office, which was established in the context of the refugee crisis at the time.
