Due to the collapse of a bridge over the A14, motorists can expect the highway to be closed for several days near Grimma. The closure will last from 8:00 p.m. on July 31 until 5:00 a.m. on August 3, according to Autobahn GmbH. During this time, traffic will be rerouted from the Mutzschen and Grimma interchanges. In preparation for the demolition work, the hard shoulders will also be closed starting Monday.
The so-called “21Ü2” overpass has been closed to traffic since last October. A special inspection had previously revealed that the bridge over the A14 was in critical condition. Cracks had formed or widened. According to authorities, the demolition will cost around 700,000 euros. A new overpass is scheduled to be built in 2028. Autobahn GmbH did not provide any information on the costs of the new construction.
