Starting this evening, utility work will result in overnight full closures between Chemnitz and Hartmannsdorf. How long the restriction will last and how drivers can avoid the closure.

Drivers on Highway 72 should expect traffic restrictions between the Chemnitz and Hartmannsdorf interchanges. In the evening (8:00 p.m.), the A72 will be completely closed in both directions at that location, according to a statement from the federal government’s Autobahn GmbH. The closure will initially last until the following morning (4:00 a.m.)—but will remain in effect for several days during that period.

How long the closure will last

In the direction of Hof, the A72 will be closed between the two interchanges from October 26 through October 29, according to the announcement. The closure in the direction of Leipzig will last two days longer—until October 31. The section will be closed on the affected days from the evening (8 p.m.) until the following morning (4 a.m.). According to Autobahn GmbH, the closure will end on October 29 and on October 31 at 4 a.m., respectively.

How drivers can bypass the closure

Drivers can take the U1 detour from the Chemnitz-Röhrsdorf interchange to the Hartmannsdorf interchange, according to the announcement. In the opposite direction, they will be routed via the U2 from Hartmannsdorf to Chemnitz-Röhrsdorf.

Why the section is being closed

According to Autobahn GmbH, the closure is necessary because work on an overhead power line is scheduled. An overhead power line is a system used to transmit electrical energy above ground.
