Anyone who uses solar systems with neighbors or in a club can now collect subsidies in Saxony. Up to 200,000 euros in support is possible. But only if at least two parties benefit.

Communal solar power systems are to receive financial support in some regions of Saxony. "When neighbors, municipalities or businesses generate and consume electricity together, they reduce their energy costs and at the same time make a contribution towards climate neutrality," said Saxony's Energy Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) in a statement from the ministry.

The aim is to drive forward the energy transition in the areas affected by structural change - i.e. in the districts of Bautzen, Görlitz, North Saxony, Leipzig and the cities of Leipzig and Chemnitz.

What is being subsidized

New photovoltaic systems with an output of ten kilowatts peak or more that supply several parties in or on a building with solar power are eligible for funding. Battery storage systems are also eligible. The prerequisite is that at least two consumers on site benefit from the electricity, it said.

Companies, municipalities, cooperatives, associations and special-purpose associations can submit an online funding application to the Sächsische Aufbaubank until February 6, 2026. Private individuals cannot do this. As a rule, up to 80 percent of the investment costs can be subsidized, up to a maximum of 200,000 euros per project.

A total of 3.1 million euros is available from EU and state funds. According to the ministry, the money comes from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
