After the closure in November, nothing worked on the only Elbe crossing for miles. This is now a thing of the past.

After months of closure, traffic on the Bad Schandau Elbe bridge will be able to move again from Thursday afternoon. Cars and smaller trucks up to 7.5 tons will be able to pass. Heavier vehicles must continue to use the established detour.

The Elbe bridge on the B172 in Bad Schandau was unexpectedly closed to all traffic for safety reasons after a special inspection following the partial collapse of the Dresden Carola Bridge on November 7. This resulted in considerable restrictions, as the next bridge for road traffic crosses the Elbe 20 kilometers away in Pirna. Shipping traffic can now pass again without restriction.

Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar (CDU) announced the opening on Tuesday. It was made possible by a load test in which the load-bearing capacity of the structure was tested at the beginning of April.
