Following the discovery of a drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport, the AfD is demanding information from the state parliament’s Interior Committee regarding security vulnerabilities and responsibilities in drone defense.

Following the discovery of an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport, the AfD state parliamentary caucus has requested a special meeting of the Interior Committee. According to a statement, the caucus is calling on Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) to disclose all currently known details of the incident to the state legislators.

“The drone defense system in Leipzig did not work,” said Sebastian Wippel, the AfD parliamentary group’s spokesperson on domestic policy. The special session should clarify the respective roles of the Saxon state government and the federal government in this matter. “All deficiencies in drone defense must now be quickly remedied, and the question of who bears responsibility for these deficiencies must be clarified,” added his fellow caucus member Carsten Hütter.
