From May, the Deutschlandticket will make bus and rail travel cheaper throughout Germany. However, customers will not be able to buy the 49-euro ticket spontaneously from a vending machine. They have to take out a subscription. Preferably in advance. This started on Monday.

The advance sale of the Deutschlandticket began on Monday at the Saxon transport companies. In the Dresden region, the ticket is available from Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe, DB Regio, Regionalverkehr Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, Regionalbus Oberlausitz and Verkehrsgesellschaft Hoyerswerda. Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe has announced that orders will be placed online via the subscription portals of the respective companies. In the course of the month, the sales functions in the apps as well as the mobile Internet page for the upgrade to the semester ticket are to be activated.

In the course of intensive coordination with the twelve transport companies, some adjustments have been made to the planned range. There will be contrary to the decision of the association meeting no additional ticket for local transport between Dresden and Riesa. The Deutschlandticket is basically only valid for local traffic, therefore the use of ICE and IC/EC trains is not possible. For long-distance trains, however, monthly tickets for the entire interconnected area can be purchased at the VVO tariff in the future.

The Deutschlandticket allows passengers on the two narrow-gauge railroads in the VVO network - the Weißeritztalbahn and the Lößnitzgrundbahn - to purchase a day ticket for eight euros. Use of the Meißen city tour and the Kirnitzschtalbahn is included in the Deutschlandticket. Advance sales have also started on schedule in North Saxony, according to the company Nordsachsen Mobil. For a punctual start at the beginning of next month, the subscription application must be received by April 10. Users can choose whether they receive the ticket on a chip card or in a free cell phone app.

The transport policy spokesman for the Greens in the Saxon state parliament, Gerhard Liebscher, welcomes the introduction of the Deutschlandticket as a "milestone for the attractiveness of public transport." However, his party is calling for a social tariff for the Deutschlandticket in the Free State. For students, trainees, pupils, citizens' allowance recipients and senior citizens, the ticket should be discounted and cost only 29 euros, with the same range of services.
