Joint patrols by the railroad and federal police are to ensure greater security and cleanliness at Dresden Central Station. What will change for travelers in the future.

In future, Deutsche Bahn and the Federal Police will be patrolling Dresden Central Station together. Deutsche Bahn announced that this is intended to increase security and cleanliness. The patrols will consist of two officers from the Federal Police and two from DB Sicherheit.

"The stations are our calling cards."

"We know from surveys that the subjective feeling of security at Dresden Central Station is already very high - the station is bright, the station is clean, security staff are present, the station is equipped with state-of-the-art video technology," emphasized station manager Heiko Klaffenbach. Nevertheless, security needs to be further improved. "The stations are our calling cards," he told the German Press Agency.

Increase in violent crimes last year

Both Deutsche Bahn with its security department and the Federal Police had significantly increased the number of patrols at the main station in 2025. As a result, more crimes were recorded, it was reported. Violent crimes were recorded in 170 cases, compared to 151 in 2024.

"No matter which area we are working in with the joint patrols from the Federal Police and DB Sicherheit, someone is always responsible. This means that the different areas of responsibility for domestic law and criminal law merge and we can always take action. This increases the efficiency of the patrols," emphasized Stephan John, Regional Area Manager Southeast at DB Sicherheit.

Video technology creates a sense of security

"For us, security at Dresden Central Station is not a static state, but a promise that we keep every day," emphasized Sebastian Reinke, Deputy Head of the Dresden Federal Police Inspectorate. Especially now in spring, when passenger numbers are on the rise, we are ideally positioned with joint patrols. The targeted use of state-of-the-art video technology not only creates a reliable sense of security for all travelers, but also guarantees fast response times if necessary.

Dresden Central Station is a central transport hub with more than 60,000 passengers a day. Over 400 trains, mainly regional and S-Bahn services, as well as long-distance connections (ICE/IC) serve the station every day.
