About 9000 people in Saxony have applied for funding for a solar system on the balcony. Of these, about 8500 applications have been approved and paid out by the Aufbaubank, the energy ministry announced on Sunday. The majority is accounted for by owners, so that the budget in this area is probably exhausted in two weeks, it said. In contrast, about 2.5 million euros are still available for tenants.
The program had started in the summer. For the acquisition of a so-called balcony power plant, a one-time grant of 300 euros is paid per household. Energy Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) was satisfied with the response. "We need large projects for more renewable energy just as much as we need the many small contributions," he explained. "With balcony power plants, citizens can very easily help shape the energy transition at home."
