A 250-kilogram world war bomb was discovered at the construction site of Dresden's Carola Bridge. It will be defused on site on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Around 17,000 people will have to leave their homes, workplaces or hotels beforehand.
Discovery at the Carola Bridge construction site
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, a British 250-kilogram bomb from the Second World War was found on the Neustadt side of the Carola Bridge. According to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, the bomb will be defused on site on Wednesday.
"For this purpose, the area within a radius of around 1,000 meters around the site where the bomb was found must be evacuated," announced the state capital of Dresden. Around 17,000 people are affected, including tourists staying in hotels in the evacuation area.
