Saxony's forests are to be rejuvenated and species-rich in order to ensure their productivity. Drought, heat, storms and mass propagation of bark beetles and other harmful organisms are threatening the forest stands, announced Forestry Minister Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch on International Forest Day (21 March).
This year's motto for the day of action, "Forests and the Economy", focuses on the areas in which forest owners and society benefit from the services provided by the forest, as the minister emphasized. Sustainable, multifunctional forest management secures income and jobs in many sectors.
