Living in one’s own apartment remains the most popular housing option for students in Saxony. This is according to a survey by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE). According to the survey, 31.2 percent of students in Saxony live in a privately rented apartment. That was slightly less than in 2023 (33.3 percent). Shared apartments follow in second place (25.5 percent).
Students in Saxony are particularly likely to live in dormitories, accounting for 22.6 percent of the total. In a comparison of German states, Saxony ranks second behind Brandenburg (25.1 percent). Nationwide, the figure is only 15.2 percent. Just over one in six students in Saxony lives with their parents (17.6 percent). This makes “Living at Mom’s” significantly less popular than the German average (27.9 percent).
