3D printing, virtual reality and AI: the "Fabmobil" is designed to open up digital worlds to schoolchildren. Now there is a cash injection.

Saxony wants to bring digital topics to rural regions with a converted double-decker bus. The so-called "Fabmobil" serves as a mobile laboratory for the future and offers children and young people on-site workshops on 3D printing, robotics, virtual reality and creative programming.

Saxony's Minister of Culture Conrad Clemens (CDU) has handed over a new grant to the "Fabmobil" association. The association will receive a total of more than one million euros for the "Fabmobil + Lokallabore - Verstetigende Mobile Digitalbildung im Ländlichen Raum" project - of which around 690,000 euros in the coming year and a further 352,500 euros in 2027.

The bus has been touring the Free State since 2017, providing pupils aged ten and over with hands-on access to digital education.

"The Fabmobil demonstrates exciting applications and arouses interest in AI and robotics. It brings innovative technology to life in Saxony's schools, with a focus on rural regions," said Clemens in a press release, praising the initiative. The funding decision "secures the future of this important project in Saxony's schools".
