More than half of the staff at Saxon universities are women. However, they are underrepresented in one group.

The number of employees at Saxony's universities is growing - but recently only marginally. While there were 46,752 employees in 2020, there were 48,604 at the end of 2024, according to the State Statistical Office. This figure also includes student assistants. Compared to the previous year, however, the increase was only 0.1 percent.

Hardly any female professors in engineering

More than half of employees (55.6 percent) are women, but they only make up 27.3 percent of professors. According to the statisticians, they are least represented in the engineering sciences and most frequently in the sports subject group.

The number of full-time professors has risen from 2,264 to 2,410 since 2020. Universities have also increased the number of lecturers to 2,548 (2020: 2,217).
