From next summer, there will be more money for daycare centers in Saxony that are under a lot of pressure. From July 2026, funding will be available for 20 facilities for one additional specialist each, who will support children in challenging life situations and their families in particular, as announced by the Ministry of Education, thus expanding an existing program.
Currently, 270 daycare centers already receive funding for an additional specialist above the statutory staffing ratio. "The additional specialists are invaluable in the day-to-day running of daycare centers," said Minister of Education Conrad Clemens (CDU) according to the press release. The decision was therefore made to use the available EU funding for the expansion. The funds come from the "Kinder stärken 2.0" program of the European Social Fund (ESF) and total up to 93 million euros, of which around 39 million euros come from state funds.
